St. JOSEPH'S SCHOOL founded in Matigara in 1964 is conducted by the Religious of the Congregation of the DAUGHTERS OF THE CROSS. The Congregation founded by Mother Marie Therese Haze in 1833 has been active in the sphere of education throughout the world, ever since its foundation.
St. Joseph's School is recognised by the West Bengal Board of Secondary Education and affiliated to the Council for the Indian School Certificate Examinations, New Delhi. It is situated in Matigara - 734428.

St. Joseph's School is a Catholic School establishedand administered by the Congregation of the Daughters of the Cross in the Roman Catholic Church. It has Christ as its Central Motivating force.
The founder body reserves the right to run the School according to its norms and close the school if it is prevented in any way from doing so.

The School aims primarily at the education of the catholic Community around and to the extent possible to the members of all the communities, irrespective of religion or caste.
Although Mother Marie Therese's aim and objective of education were formulated in the 19th century, so farseeing was she that the goals of our education today are in essence the same as those of our Foundress. Mother Marie Therese Haze was deeply commited to the education primarily of Catholic girls and the liberation of the under priviledged (especially women) from their sufferings and social evils.

As Daughter of the Cross, the "Cross of Christ" the sign of peace and love, the centre of Mother Marie.Therese Haze's life from which she drew her strength and inspiration urges us, her daughters to be educators in joy and hope.
With Christ, we desire to bring about the liberation of every person, especially the weak, the poor, the handicapped, the depressed and the rejects of the Society.
In and through our service to them and to women we work for dignity of womanhood, striving to serve women by entering into their suffering and working to free them from evil that may keep them from being fully human, fully alive as women today.
Animated by the divine spirit of love and freedom we build a responsible School Community involving, teaching and non-teaching staff.

Our students at the heart of our hopes and concerns play an active part in the school community. We count on parents because of the key role they play in the education of their children.

Our Common vision that binds our school community keeps us at the service of the church and the Nation, while we work for the good of our students and always keep in mind a concern for the sufferings of humanity.
In our times the most important issues to be faced are issues of values and the transmission of these values in to action. Hence the goal of our education today, continues to promote academic excellence, development of skills and character formation based on the values of Jesus Christ as expressed in the beautitudes and summed up in the virtues of love, sincerity, justice and freedom, with a view to training citizens distinguished for their all-round development and sincere commitment to God and Country.
